Eagles Baseball Under 17s

Welcome back to Eagles Baseball and it’s great to see that we have the numbers for an U17 team this coming season.

Just an update about training and apologies that the communications have been a bit slow, but I assume that you have all just returned from school holidays anyway.

You will be coached the year by the three US imports to the club which is exciting as they bring a wealth of knowledge about the game and terrific enthusiasm as well. Boomer (some of you know him from last year) is returning having won the A Grade MVP for Canberra last year, and Ed Warren and Steve Farkas who are both hard throwing left handed pitchers from North Carolina will be assisting. The guys are new to town so please make them feel very welcome.

As some of you will be playing seniors as well, we have decided to run a dedicated u17 session on Monday nights from 5pm and a second training with the seniors on Thursday nights. If you can only make one session (exams may just pop up) the Monday would be the one.

We don’t have a draw yet so I’m unsure about midweek games etc, but I would expect at the very least there will be 4 clubs fielding teams on a Saturday which is great news.

Having spent the last few years with you guys, I’ll come down and introduce you to the American boys on Monday at 5.

2018-19 U11 Eagles baseball – Welcome and Training

First, welcome to the 2018-19 season of eagles baseball. We have a mix of returning, new and players moving up in age group, so it should be fun.

By way of introduction I am Mark Ballhause, and along with Belinda Hull, we will be the coaches this year. Neither of us have coached baseball before but helped with the U11s last year.

The season is fast approaching, with the first game on 20 Oct (the first Saturday after school goes back). Therefore, it is important that we get some training in, so the boys all meet each other before then.

We have decided to train on Mondays and Wednesdays this year from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. If you can’t make both nights, we would prefer to have everyone at training on Wednesday nights. We intend to use Mondays for skills development, and Wednesdays for skills and gameplay.

Training will start this Wednesday 10 Oct for those that can make it. (Sorry for the short notice). If you can’t make it this week, it is ok as I know it is school holidays and people may not be around. Training for both nights will start next

Last time I checked, the draw had not been finalised yet, but I will send an email out next week with some other details.

We will need to get some parents to help with scoring this year (Belinda was our scorer last year). Belinda and I look forward to meeting and working with you all this year. My focus will be to develop the kids skills…..but most importantly….. to have fun!

Thanks Mark

New Uniforms 2 – Junior Playing Jerseys, Uniform Day, and Come & Try

The Eagles Comittee would like to present the new Junior Playing Tops which is the other part of the new uniform. This has all been made possible by our sponsors The Calwell Club, oobe, and Pizza Capers Jerrabomberra.

These jerseys will be for the U11 to U15’s junior teams for their playing tops (which the team manager will hand out & collect before & after each game).

For the U17 team, they will use the Senior Jersey as there playing top.

All shirts are made of Cool Weave fabric which will be great for the player during the Summer.

Uniform Day and Come & Try Day  – Ron Barnes Ballpark on Sept 15th from 11am

Junior training shirts and caps (both compulsory) will be available to purchase, together with Eagles socks and batting gloves. We will also be sizing U11-U17’s for their playing tops. Registered Seniors may also attend to collect their playing shirts for the season. Caps, socks and batting gloves will be available to purchase.

Also available will be new Eagles Polos and Hoodies (limited stock).

There will be an opportunity for anyone who missed our first Come & Try Day to have a go at baseball, with coaches and players available to assist.

Great turn out for Come and Try day

Well what a day this turn out to be. The night before we where a little worried that the showers would stay around, but the sun was out.

Welcome to come and try day

Welcome and how can we help you?

We had plenty of committee members, coaching staff, and players there ready to help and they were needed.

We had a good number of people come and enquire and give it a go.

One young lad never tried anything like Baseball before and so his first taste, and all reports he like it. Another was a new family that have just come to Canberra from Canada for the next few years and looking for a team for there son to join. And many more

The sausages from Jordo’s Chop Shop where well received for all who attended, so thank you Jordo’s for supplying them.

We would also like to thank the Calwell Club and Pizza Caper Jerrabomberra for there help promoting this day.

An finally, to all that came and help on the day. You have made this day a success and shown what it is like being part of the Eagle family.
